Leash Up, Pup! Everything You Need to Know About Sweden’s Leash Law

Leash Up, Pup! Everything You Need to Know About Sweden’s Leash Law

As much as we love letting our dogs run free, Sweden has a leash law in place from March 1st to August 20th. During this time, all dogs must be kept on a leash when outdoors. But why, you might ask? Well, it's all about protecting wildlife during their sensitive breeding season.

What Does This Mean for You?

  • Leash Up: Keep your dog on a lead while outside from March to August.
  • Anywhere You Go: The leash rule applies in all outdoor spaces—whether it’s a park, a forest trail, or your neighborhood.
  • Fines: It’s important to follow the law, as not doing so could result in fines.

How to Enjoy Outdoor Adventures with Your Dog

Even with the leash law in place, there’s still plenty of fun to be had with your dog!

  • Leash Training: It’s a good time to make sure your dog is happy walking on a leash. A little practice goes a long way!
  • Dog-Friendly Parks: Check out dog-friendly areas where your dog can safely roam once the law allows.
  • Use a harness & long lead: Make sure to always be in control while your dog gets to roam (almost) free with a harness and a longer lead.

Remember, the leash law is there for a reason, and it’s easy to follow. By keeping your dog on a leash, you’re helping protect Sweden’s wildlife while enjoying quality time with your pup.
